Classic Cars in Hamburg: Mini Cooper in Hafen City

A couple of months ago I had to go to the Hafen City Zoll (Customs Office) to collect a parcel (an Etsy purchase!). On the way back to the station I walked past this little chesnut. I loved the building it was parked next to too.

Looking at this photo is like a glimpse of a moment from another era. The Hafen City is an area of Hamburg's working harbour that is undergoing intense redevelopment, with impressive modern buildings designed by world famous architects going up. It's special that I found this little vintage corner.

This is part of my photography project: Classic Cars. I now carry my camera wherever I go and I will collect pictures of vintage cars that I see while out and about. They just make me happy.
  1. Mini Cooper in Hamburg
  2. V.W. Beetle  in Hamburg
  3. V.W. Beetle with vintage skis in Hamburg
  4. Mini Cooper in Hamburg
  5. Vintage cars in the UK Winter 2012
  6. Renault 5 in Hamburg
  7. Classic cars in Sylt in Germany Spring 2012
  8. Classic American in Hamburg
  9. Fiat 500 in Liguria in Italy Summer 2012
  10. VW Beetle Convertible in Lausanne in Switzerland Summer 2012

LOVE classic cars!

Etsy Stock Take - Week Thirty-four

Favourite from week 33: Silk and wool scarf from Sesenarts

Etsy Stock Take - Week Thirty-four - Sunday Linky Party

Hi guys,

I'm really looking forward to the coming week. I'm planning to sew up a couple of velvet cushion covers for a friend. I think I must also catch up with some finished projects that I have pictures of, but that haven't made it to the blog yet...

Re: weekly Etsy Stock Take reminder email, I had 4 people say 'yes please' and no one say 'yuck more spam' so I'm going to try it out! Please let me know what you think and if you want on or off the mailing list.

Balcony Food: Garlic and herbs

Fresh from the soil

I LOVE having a balcony. It's even south-facing *gush* I have been experimenting with what I can grow. Garlic turns out to be one of those things - Hurrah!

Cleaned up and eaten sliced thin in a salad the same day it was pulled out of the soil! Soft skin and all. Delicate.

I have also been rather successful with sage (some leaves pictured with garlic above), thyme, mint, rosemary and strawberries. On the flower front, I enjoy having some geraniums around, as well as lavender for when I hear the south calling...

What I did:
  • I found out by accident that December is the time to plant the cloves. It happened to be December, so I went to the kitchen and grabbed a few cloves from a shop bought fist of garlic. Then I shoved them a few centimetres (couple of inches) deep into the soil in a big herb planter, making sure to leave some growing space between them and that they were pointy end up.
  • I watered them and waited.
  • I watched the leaves carefully and pulled them up mid-June.
  • I ate some straightaway, we couldn't resist!
  • I cured the rest by leaving them out of the sun in a well ventilated dry spot.
  • They are quite small, only an inch or so wide (a couple of cm) but good things come in small packages.

Brush off excess soil and leave somewhere dry out of the sun to cure.
I still have a couple of little heads left that have cured nicely. I'm looking forward to tasting them!

Etsy Stock Take - Week Thirty-three

My favourite from last week: Crochet Ring at Caracolhandmade. Crochet rules!

Etsy Stock Take - Week Thirty-three - Sunday Linky Party

Hi guys,

This week I started a crochet granny square blanket. It's fun because I had a very bumpy start with granny squares, but I finally found a way to make them that I really like and I've already made more than 10! The best part? I'm busting my stash! YAY! I'll put up a picture soon...

Buttons and blocking...

Detail of unblocked leaves.

Isn't this a treat?! I'm so pleased with it. I'm waiting for Marmee's visit next month to give it its final blocking, to make sure it fits her. I think it'll look fab with all the little leaves smoothed out post-blocking.

And buttons? Well, they are being ordered and I think they will be made specially :)

More on this project:

-Ravelry stuff
-Trying to get gauge.
-Half way!

I'll be linking this up to lots of crafty parties, find out where by clicking on the 'What I'm...' tab above.

Etsy Stock Take - Week Thirty-two - Sunday Linky Party

Hi guys,

I'm home!!!

I'm itching to get out my knitting needles and pick out a project. Before I left I was weighing up whether to start a little lap blanket or make a shawl or waistcoat for myself... Once this week's Etsy Stock Take is up and running I will go and frolic in my stash! YAY!

What creative pursuits have you been following this week? Did you find any vintage treasures? Please share!

Oh, and I have a question: Etsy people, would you like me to send you an email to let you know that the Esty Stock Take is live each week? I noticed a lot of bloggers do that, but I'm not sure if it would be a helpful reminder for you or just another spam email? Let me know in the comments section!

So, what have you been up to this week?

Edelweiss in Switzerland

Edelweiss in Lausanne, Switzerland
I love capturing little details that I find when I am out and about.

A couple of days ago I was walking past a little flower shop in the old town part of Lausanne and I spied an Edelweiss in flower for sale. I was fascinated. They are sweet and kind of furry. Strains of The Sound of Music came into my mind...

I believe that Edelweiss, typical of the Swiss Alps, are quite rare, especially in the wild, so this was quite a privilege :)
